A Word of Warning to Christian Dominionists and Reconstructionists
Please don't try it. Cease even to think of it. We, your fellow citizens, who believe in freedom, liberty, equality before fair and impartial law, fairness and egalitarianism, will not allow you to turn this country into a theocracy. We will try and reason with you, debate you, help you to see the extreme error of your beliefs. We owe you that much at least, in our great democracy. You may think us weak, but you will be wrong.
For if you persist in trying to hijack the governments of this nation - local, state and federal - so as to remake this great land into a theocratic nightmare, we will destroy you: we will burn you out of your homes and businesses; we will shoot you down in the streets; we will march on and sieze the major cities and capitols across the land. We will make war on you until either you have surrendered or none of you are left alive. We know how to do this, because we are Americans too, and have done it before: to each other, to Germany, to Japan. You are not the only ones who can become ferocious in the pursuit of victory.
And after such a war? Assuming you were intelligent enough to surrender, there will be no great reconciliation as there was after the last Civil War. All of you will be offered two choices: exile or death. Because at that point we will have had enough of you, will want to be shut of you and your meanness and cancerous spirits for ever and all time. So in your multitudes you shall either leave forever or perish.
I pledge all of the above with my back, my heart and even my soul. I may lose the latter in helping to exact so terrible a cost from you, but at least I will win my country.

The National Socialists made the same offer, at least at first. The communists of Mao's China, Pot's Kmehr Rouge, and the old Soviet Unions skipped the exile part, and went straight for death.
For a government to work, you have to have either cooperation or an authoritarian power that will crush all those who don't submit. And liberals don't tolerate dissention well. Since liberals are "nice," anyone who disagrees is "mean," but more often labled as "evil." And they must be done away with.

Interesting. Perhaps you could enlighten us to the history of this nation? Granted, there has never been a federal religion per se (and I for agree there shouldn't be) however for many decades the separate and sovereign states, along with municipalities, could freely have religious basis within their laws. It's only been a 20th century invention (circa 1925) that the 14th Amendment 'incorporated' the 1st to the states. So in effect, any actions taken at a state or local level would be taking back the right to have certain moral order at the lower levels.
Now if you want to argue natural rights and from a libertarian stance whether or not moral laws should exist is an altogether different argument. But if the majority within a muncipality desires to enforce certain laws under the original intent of the US Constitution and the strict reading of a federalist society, they do have that right.
Of course your arguments are about as stable as many on the supposed right (as I do not consider them conservative). Incoherent ramblings that there should be a national standard, whether it be amoral or moral. And it is clear that was never the intent of the Framers. Those issues and concerns were intended to be dealt with within the separate state legislatures
Although I'll be suprised if you allow this post as it is a coherent, and correct BTW no matter how much you may not like it, argument against your so-called stance. You want to argue Constitutional theory, try me.

1.) The "left" has no ability to conduct such an operation. You all do very well at gathering together for an anti-WTO riot, or an anti-war rally, or those types of things. Other than gather in one place though, you can't all seem to be exactly on the same page all at one time. At those events mentioned, you have some people railing against corporations, some railing against Israel, some railing against western society in general and more than that you got people out there just getting attention. You know, I know it, everyone knows it.
2.) With what guns do you plan to shoot people down in the streets?

4.) Even if you got all your Lesbian Avengers and other assorted groups armed and pointed in the same direction and tried this lunacy, how fast would they fold in the field against people who are more familiar with arms and many if not most of whom are veterans anyway? While you will have some vets and some folks familiar with firearms, most will not be.

I run with a lot of conservative Christian types, and I'll tell you something you don't know because you, the wonderfully enlightened and civilized one, are apparently too busy dreaming of shooting us to actually talk to any of us: When we talk about politics, we don't picture a utopian Christian society where everybody is a Southern Baptist. We don't even picture an America where you get to worship as you please, but the laws are based on Christian theology.
What do we picture? We picture a nation that is faithful to the Constitution as the Founders wrote it and as the People amended it. That's all. Your vision of "fundies" imposing our will in a theocracy is either the empty paranoia of an intellectual lightweight, or the McCarthyite tactics of a movement desperate to distract people from the utter failure of its policies.
So, there will be no Christian Theocracy in the United States, because we conservative Christians aren't planning on one and if somebody tried to establish one we'd be the first people picking up rifles to defend the Constitution against tyranny.

2. You keep saying that a convention of dominionists could be held in a phone booth. That's certainly possible, though the booth in question would have to be the size of Texas.
3. Do you really think that your fundamentalist friends, knowing that you'd be one of the first to pick up a rifle and defend our constitution, would TELL YOU WHAT THEY REALLY THINK??? You need to study Stalinism in all its niceities.

With 85% of Americans claiming to be Christians, if they wanted to take over the US government, they certainly could with no problem whatsoever. The problem is that there are no other people in this country who want our freedoms more than Christians do. "Christian dominionists/reconstructionists" do not exist in this country! Anyone who researches this can find that this is nothing but propaganda/lies made up by the gay atheist liberal extremists in this country who are furious at Christians for being against gay marriages. The majority of Americans are against gay marriages simply b/c it is something new to them. Most Americans have not been around any gay people b/c most of them live in the cities. I would have given Americans one or two years before they accepted gay marriages. NOW, after their lies and trying their best to spread these lies about Christians and the Christians in this country just beginning to find out who has been behind all of this, I doubt Americans will ever accept gay marriages. I know I wasn't against gay marriages, but I damn sure am now & I will be forever. I kept thinking, Who in the world is tearing this country apart at a time we so desparately needed to be united? Well, I did a little research and found out it has been the gay atheists in this country. Do you realize what harm you have done to this country? I can't tell you how many Muslim extremists have pointed me to your pathetic websites. You have, at the very least, done just as much damage to this country as Bush has. It is this very type of person who is trying to take away our freedoms in this country. I do not like Bush at all, but I have seen absolutely nothing that he has done as far as Christianity and/or God is concerned that almost every other president we have had has done. Liberal extremists seem to forget that the Democrats, also, voted for us to go into Iraq. But that's really not what all of this is about, now, is it?
